London 2012 Edition

Of course you know already that MINI is the official partner of Team GB and Paralympics GB and so what better way to celebrate this monumentous link-up than by the manufacturer producing an Olympic-themed special edition MINI?

There will be just 2,012 of these models built during this year; they are available in Cooper, Cooper D, Cooper S and Cooper SD trims and come in the Union Jack-themed colours of Chili Red, White Silver or Lightning Blue. All models boast white mirror caps and a white roof featuring the iconic London 2012 Olympic graphic.

The exterior carries a distinctive Union Jack single sport stripe which runs over the bonnet, roof and rear tailgate of the car. To finish, the MINI London 2012 edition features unique grey 17-inch conical spoke alloys that are unavailable on any other model.

Inside, the most striking feature is the London skyline (Tower Bridge, Battersea Power Station and the London Eye) which has been printed across the width of the piano black dash along with the model’s limited edition number.

The black Lounge Leather seats are stitched in intertwined red and blue piping, whereas the head rests have Union Jack piping and a London 2012 logo stitched on the inner edge of both front seats.

If you pop down to your local MINI dealer, it’s likely there will be one of these London 2012 Editions on display and on sale. Prices range from £17,800 for the Cooper, up to £20,860 for the Cooper SD.

Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, tuning specialist Janspeed is one of the oldest in the business – not to mention one of the best too.

Take the exhaust system for the first generation MINI Cooper for example (Janspeed manifold and sports cat pictured, suitable for R50, R52 or R53). It’s made using either 304 stainless steel or aluminised steel throughout and is mandrel-formed to minimise loss of wall thickness.

To ensure a perfect fit these are all handmade on individual jigs and carry a guarantee for the exhaust system parts, which is extendable to a lifetime via registration.

Janspeed exhausts can be bought direct (call 01722 321833) or through specialists such as Larkspeed, where prices for full systems start from £309.20. Visit:

Cars with soft tops or non-metallic roofs need a little extra help to ensure they continue to look great. Well, that’s what the Meguiar’s team thinks at least – hence these two products.

Meguiar’s Convertible and Cabrio Cleaner gives quick and effective cleaning for canvas, cloth, mohair and vinyl tops. It’s ideal for dealing with stubborn stains such as hard water, bird droppings and oil without drying out hoods.

The Weatherproofer meanwhile uses a comprehensive formula to create a protective barrier offering long-lasting defence against UV-rays, acid rain and bird droppings.

Both can be had for roughly a tenner each, so if they’re as good as Meguiar’s say then they’re definitely great value for money. Order yours online ( or over the phone by calling 0870 241 6696.

The simplest ideas are sometimes the best. This is certainly the case with this ingeniously-designed 8GB USB stick as it looks exactly like a MINI key fob!

This official key fob includes MINI logo doming and comes with a lanyard and an extra USB cable. It’s also packaged in a giftbox. Just make sure that your gift-receiver is clear – you’re NOT handing them the key to a brand new MINI (well, you don’t want them to be disappointed do you?)

This USB stick is priced at £30.00 and can be ordered online from the MINI lifestyle shop at:

Readers might be interested to learn that Corbeau has thoroughly updated its range of motorsport seats for 2011. Obviously, we don’t have the space to cover them all, so instead we decided to pick our favourite example for stripped out MINIs.

The new Pro-Series is a seat that Corbeau reckons will soon represent the preferred choice of motorsport teams and enthusiasts who are short on cabin space. After being updated, it now boasts the latest in cushion design and stitching pattern for strength, plus the HANS comfort zone.

The Pro-Series seat is available in a choice of colours, plus either a Kevlar or carbon composite. Readers can expect to pay from £449.00 for Corbeau’s Pro-Series seats (subframes are available separately priced £112.00 each).
